John Fox to have heart surgery, will miss 4-6 weeks

John FoxDenver Broncos head coach John Fox will have heart surgery in North Carolina on Tuesday and likely be out 4-6 weeks, according to a report.

FOX NFL reporter Jay Glazer reported the news about Fox’s surgery and says the head coach has known for a while that he would need this operation. Glazer adds that Fox was slated to have the aortic procedure this offseason, but the condition deteriorated faster than expected. Fox actually met with his doctor during the bye week to schedule the procedure for February, but after feeling light-headed on the golf course Saturday, he went to the hospital for tests and has now scheduled the surgery for the coming week.

Glazer says Fox is still determining who the team’s interim head coach will be. Defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio, who was a longtime head coach with the Jacksonville Jaguars, could make the most sense.

The Broncos are 7-1 and currently on their bye.
