Odell Beckham Jr. is not a lock to make the New York Giants’ final roster, but he surely made an impression on head coach John Harbaugh during his first game appearance since reuniting with the team on Saturday.
In front of nearly 80,000 people at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., Beckham entered the game with a little over six minutes remaining in the first half of the NFL preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings. By the time the contest was over, the former LSU Tigers star wideout had accumulated just six receiving yards on two receptions and three targets.
To say that those numbers are underwhelming would be an understatement.
But Harbaugh still had great words to say after the game about the 33-year-old Beckham.
“I thought he looked pretty good, you know, he looked pretty good, made a couple catches, you know, did some things, some things he could have done better. He’ll be the guy, first guy to tell you that, you know, but I thought he looked solid, I would say, Harbaugh told reporters after the game, via SNY Giants.
Harbaugh did not drop any concrete hint that Beckham would be on the team’s roster by Week 1 of the 2026 NFL regular season, but he made sure to praise the three-time Pro Bowler.
“That was fun. I mean, you know, I love him though. I do. He’s, what he’s doing, what he’s fighting for, you know, I don’t know how it’s going to turn out. It’s going to turn out the way, the way it turns out, you know, based on what happens.”
Injuries and age have diminished what Beckham can do on the field, but there are not a few Giants fans who would want to see him earn a roster spot on the team, just based on how he used to electrify them during his first years in the league.
Selected 12th overall in the 2014 NFL Draft by New York, Beckham recorded 5,476 receiving yards and 44 touchdowns on 390 catches through 59 games in his first five seasons in the NFL with the Giants.
