John Lynch: 49ers landed ‘two of our top three players’

John Lynch

John Lynch’s first draft as general manager of the San Francisco 49ers doesn’t seem as if it could have gone much better than it did.

The team netted three extra picks to move down one spot for defensive lineman Solomon Thomas, and then jumped back into the first round to stop linebacker Reuben Foster’s slide — which, according to Lynch, meant the Niners got two of the top three players on their draft board.

“I can tell you right off the bat that what we had on the board was just under 200 players, and in terms of how we rated them, we got two of our top three players,” Lynch said, via Nick Wagoner of ESPN. “We were able to do that, and we’re thrilled. We’re ecstatic. We think these guys have a lot of traits of what we want to be about as a football organization.”

Lynch and company pretty much nailed Thursday, leveraging major interest in the No. 2 pick into getting a quality deal and still landing the player they wanted. If the third player Lynch is referencing was Myles Garrett, they did indeed do great.
