Julio Jones calls 2,000 yards a ‘possibility’

Julio Jones

We haven’t seen a 2,000-yard season by a pass catcher, but Julio Jones isn’t ruling out that it may one day be eclipsed.

The closest to reaching the hallowed mark is Calvin Johnson, who put up 1,964 yards back in 2012. The second-best yardage total is by Jones in 2015 with 1,871 yards. Based on how close Johnson came, Jones feels 2,000 yards is certainly doable.

“Can it be done? It’s a possibility,” Jones told ESPN. “It definitely can be done. I mean, Calvin Johnson was close. He had, what, 1,900-something? So, he was right there. So, who knows?”

Jones is comfortably among the top wide receivers in the NFL, a position that boasts some supremely talented players. Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham Jr., A.J. Green, Jordy Nelson, and Mike Evans are a few others.

And, the game as evolved into one that favors passing. There have been rule changes that have made life easier for receivers now than in years past and quarterbacks are posting attempt and completion totals that look like video game numbers.

If there was ever going to be a 2,000-yard receiver, this would probably be the time for it to happen. Jones has a good a chance as anyone to do it.
