Justin Fields raising concerns over throwing motion?

Justin Fields had a shaky rookie season for the Chicago Bears, and some around the league apparently have a specific concern regarding the quarterback.

Kevin Fishbain and Adam Jahns published an article on The Athletic about the Bears. They sought the opinion of people around the league regarding Chicago and specifically Fields.

There was a positive feeling about Fields, according to the reporters. However, many people said Fields needed to make a few fixes.

“Several league contacts pointed to Fields’ mechanics, specifically his elongated throwing motion,” the reporters wrote.

Fields’ throwing motion was a topic brought up ahead of last year’s draft. Former NFL QB Chris Simms said Fields has a hitch with his elbow that slows him down. Simms said at the time that he didn’t know whether Fields would ever be able to fix the issue.

You can see in this slow motion video how Fields raising his elbow:

The motion didn’t prevent the Bears from drafting Fields No. 11 overall. It also didn’t keep Fields from being viewed as a consensus first-round pick last year.

Fields completed 58.9 percent of his passes for 1,870 yards over 12 games as a rookie. He passed for 7 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, while rushing for 420 yards and 2 touchdowns. Fields’ rookie season, and the Bears’ offense as a whole, left a lot to be desired. They have made a coaching change and are hoping that will help with the young QB’s development.
