NFL wide receiver Kevin White had his car stolen Thursday night in a carjacking scheme that has become increasingly popular in the Chicago area.
White’s girlfriend was driving the Bears receiver’s Maserati when she reportedly became the victim of a “bump-and-run” attack. What happens is the carjackers nudge your bumper with a car of their own, and one of the thieves hops out and steals your car when you step out to check on the damage.
“This suggests a team of individuals doing this. One drives, both of them are in the car,” community activist Andrew Holmes told Jessica D’Onofrio of ABC 7. “Sometimes they use a female to bump the other car. If the female knows it’s another female, then she gets out, lets her guard down, someone comes from behind, they jump in the car and they take off in the car.”
White’s girlfriend, who is 26, was not injured. A photo that White shared on Instagram a while back showed the car that was stolen.
White, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, did not play in his rookie season before appearing in just four games last year. He caught 19 passes for 187 yards.
