Report: Man shot as result of Niners-Raiders dispute
Games between the Oakland Raiders and San Francisco 49ers have oftentimes brought out the worse in fans. There were very few incidents reported inside the stadium during Sunday’s game between the two rivals in Oakland, but the same could not be said of the surrounding area.
According to Sharon Noguchi of the San Jose Mercury News, a man was shot at a downtown San Jose restaurant after an argument broke out over the Raiders-Niners game. Several people were detained and the victim was transported to a hospital with “life-threatening wounds.”
Sgt. Jaime Jimenez of the San Jose Police Department described the crime as “game-related for sure.”
The Raiders came away with a surprising 24-13 victory.
There is a long and disturbing history of fan fighting when the 49ers and Raiders square off. The Raiders announced before Sunday’s game that there would be added police presence inside the O.co Coliseum. While the additional security measures may have helped, there were still some punches thrown.
