Report: Melvin Gordon ‘pushing hard to play’ against Chiefs

Melvin Gordon has missed the Los Angeles Chargers’ last two games after he suffered a knee sprain, but he at least has a chance to play in an all-important matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday night.

On Wednesday, the Chargers announced that Gordon is traveling with the team to Kansas City and officially listed as questionable. While head coach Anthony Lynn said earlier in the week that he is not optimistic about Gordon playing, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that the star running back is “pushing hard” to be ready.

The Chargers will already be without running back Austin Ekeler, who has been ruled out after he suffered a concussion last week. If Gordon is unable to play, rookie seventh-round pick Justin Jackson would have to handle a big workload in a game that could eventually determine who wins the AFC West and earns a first round playoff bye.

Initial reports claimed Gordon may be in danger of missing the remainder of the regular season with a Grade 2 MCL sprain, but more recent information indicated the injury may not be as serious as initially believed.
