Michael Bennett was ‘very surprised’ 49ers did not give Colin Kaepernick a shot

Seattle Seahawks defensive lineman Michael Bennett couldn’t help but stick his nose into the San Francisco 49ers’ offensive issues.

Bennett said he was “very surprised” that the Niners didn’t bench struggling Blaine Gabbert in favor of Colin Kaepernick during their 37-18 loss to Seattle on Sunday, and had some strong words about both quarterbacks.

“I think Kaepernick gives the team a better chance of winning,” Bennett said, via Jayson Jenks of the Seattle Times. “But that’s just my opinion.”

Bennett even went as far as to call Gabbert easy to play against.

“There is no challenge,” Bennett said of facing Gabbert. “He threw for 100 yards. The challenge is him reading the defense and staying in the pocket.”

Chip Kelly continues to maintain that there will be no quarterback change, but Gabbert has shown no indication that he’s really up for the job. If he doesn’t improve, the Niners simply have to give Kaepernick a shot. They won’t have anything to lose.
