Michael Sam expected to make CFL debut
Michael Sam is expected to make his CFL debut for the Montreal Alouettes on Friday, which would mark his first time playing in a professional football game.
The Alouettes are 2-3 and last in the East Division of the CFL. Sam made the road trip with his team to Ottawa for the game. The Als have two injured players and a few openings on their 44-man roster — which is declared an hour before kickoff — and the former Missouri DE is expected to get one of the spots.
By all indications Michael Sam will make his #CFL debut tomorrow night against Ottawa. #Alouettes

#Als' DB @Le_champ39 did not accompany the team to Ottawa. I would expect @MichaelSamNFL to make his #CFL debut Friday night.

Als coach Tom Higgins would not tip his hand regarding his plans for Sam.
“It’s going to happen. Whether it’s here or (next Thursday at home) against the Edmonton Eskimos or the game after, we’re close. I don’t believe it matters whether it’s here or at home. Maybe there’s some pressure off if it’s an away game,” the coach said via the Montreal Gazette.
It sounds like Sam’s debut will happen sooner than later. Friday’s game will be televised on ESPN2.
