Report: Michigan ‘convinced’ Jim Harbaugh wants to stay in NFL

Jim Harbaugh reaction

Jim Harbaugh has been the most popular name linked to the Michigan football coaching vacancy, but that doesn’t mean the San Francisco 49ers coach is interested in the job.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports that Michigan recently met with Harbaugh and came away “convinced” that the former Wolverines quarterback wants to stay in the NFL.

The only thing linking Harbaugh to Michigan is that he went to school there. Aside from that, all signs point to him wanting to be an NFL coach. Harbaugh also has strong family ties to the west coast and reportedly does not want to be far from his children.

Assuming all of the reports about Harbaugh’s days in San Francisco being numbered are accurate, the Oakland Raiders are a likely suitor. Rapoport reports that there is mutual interest between Harbaugh and the Raiders, who are reportedly looking to make a “rockstar” hire.

Actually acquiring Harbaugh would be the complicated part for the Raiders, as they would have to work out a trade with the Niners.
