Mike Williams expects to debut for Chargers on Sunday
No. 7 overall pick Mike Williams finally looks set to make his Los Angeles Chargers debut.
Williams said Wednesday that he expects to make his NFL debut on Sunday after battling a back injury.
“I’m expecting to play,” Williams said, via Jack Wang of the Orange County Register. “I’m gonna practice hard, go through all the plays. Whatever decision the coaches make, I’m going to be ready for it.”
Coach Anthony Lynn wasn’t quite as bullish, but definitely left the door open.
“I think he’s very close,” Lynn said. “We’ll see at the end of the week where he’s at.”
One of the draft’s top wide receivers, Williams had downplayed the severity of his back injury as far back as training camp. It obviously proved to be fairly serious, but he seems just about ready to show what he can do.
