Mike Zimmer admits Vikings must clean up ‘critical errors’

Mike Zimmer

The last-second miracle victory the Minnesota Vikings scored over the New Orleans Saints on Sunday masked the fact that the team nearly blew a 17-0 lead and lost at home.

Coach Mike Zimmer is well aware that, while the team can certainly savor such a dramatic victory, they’ll have to play much better going forward to get to and win the Super Bowl.

“We can’t make these mistakes in playoff games or we’ll be going home,” Zimmer said, via Josh Alper of ProFootballTalk. “There’s always good and always bad in some of the games. We made some critical errors in that game that coulda got us beat.”

This is part of playing or coaching in the NFL. The memory of Stefon Diggs’ walk-off touchdown will live long in the memory of pretty much everyone who witnessed it, but it didn’t win a Super Bowl or even a conference championship. If they want to achieve those goals, everyone in the Minnesota locker room has to focus and get back to the task at hand — a meeting with the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC Championship.
