Minnesota Vikings open to trading Jared Allen

Jared AllenJared Allen will be a free agent after the season, but he could be leaving the Minnesota Vikings sooner than that.

According to FOX NFL reporter Jay Glazer, the Vikings are open to dealing the pass-rushing star if they can get strong compensation. Glazer says the Vikings would be willing to deal Allen for “the right price” and that they’ve discussed it. Glazer also notes that any team that wants Allen would have to trade at least a third-round pick, because that’s what the Vikings would receive in compensation if Allen leaves in free agency.

The Vikings are 1-5 and have serious problems at the quarterback position. They know this season is over, so they’re figuring they might as well see if they can get something good for Allen. Allen has been in the league since 2004 and has recorded 78.5 sacks in 86 career games with the Vikings. He never missed a game for them since being obtained in a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs prior to the 2008 season. As he showed us with this sack on Monday night against the New York Giants, he still is one of the best defensive ends in the game.
