Edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney was arrested before signing with the Dallas Cowboys, and we now have more information regarding the incident.
Clowney was arrested in his hometown of Rock Hill, S.C. on Sept. 12 for allegedly parking illegally in an apartment complex, according to documents obtained by WSPA 7NEWS. The edge rusher attempted to park at Dunbar Place Apartments, a private apartment complex where unauthorized vehicles can be towed.
Clowney admitted to parking in the complex to attend a football game at nearby Winthrop University. He added that his aunt lived in the complex, but an officer told him he still could not park there if he did not live in the complex.
Police records state Clowney became “highly argumentative, boisterous, and talked loudly” at this point. Clowney also allegedly refused to provide identification when officers asked for it. The veteran was arrested for trespassing and failure to identify, and was transported to jail.
Speaking ahead of his Dallas debut, Clowney said the whole incident was a “big misunderstanding.” He is still expected to make his Cowboys debut Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
Clowney had 46 total tackles and 5.5 sacks last season with the Carolina Panthers. He played the first five years of his career with the Texans and then had brief stints with the Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, Baltimore Ravens and Panthers.
