NFL: Patriots had nothing to do with headset problems

Bill-Belichick-Was-JFK-for-HalloweenThe NFL has cleared the New England Patriots from all suspicion regarding the cause of the headset problems both teams claimed to have experienced during Thursday night’s game.

A league spokesperson issued the following statement Friday to clear things up, saying an electrical issue made worse by the weather was to blame:

NBC’s announcers explained during the first quarter of the game that the Steelers were hearing the Patriots’ radio broadcast in their headsets. They said the NFL then stopped the headsets from working in general in order to level the playing field.

After losing 28-21, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said he experiences problems with the headsets every time he is at Gillette Stadium, while the Steelers’ website accused the Patriots of cheating. Never mind that Bill Belichick also complained about having communications problems; people were quick to blame the Patriots for shady business since that has been all the talk surrounding them over the past few weeks.

As our own Steve DelVecchio joked on Twitter, what’s next, are people going to blame Belichick for causing the bad weather?
