Nick Foles benched for Gardner Minshew against Bucs
The Jacksonville Jaguars turned back to Nick Foles after he came off injured reserve even though Gardner Minshew had success early on, but the rookie got his job back on Sunday.
Foles, who had lost both of his starts after returning from a broken collarbone heading into Sunday, struggled in the first half against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He completed just 7-of-14 passes for 93 yards and an interception, and the Jags trailed 25-0 at the half. Jacksonville head coach Doug Marrone decided to turn things over to Minshew at the start of the third quarter.
The move came after Jags fans could be heard chanting “we want Minshew!” early on.

Foles signed a four-year, $88 million deal with Jacksonville during the offseason, and he broke his collarbone in the first game of the year. Minshew then kept the team in the playoff hunt for several weeks before having his first multi-interception game in a loss to the Houston Texans earlier this month. The Jaguars decided to turn back to Foles after that.
It’s unclear how the Jags will proceed going forward, as they already gave Foles $50 million guaranteed. If Minshew plays well down the stretch, they could look to trade Foles after the season.
