Notable update emerges about Mike McDaniel’s future

The Miami Dolphins continue to spiral, but head coach Mike McDaniel apparently still has some wiggle room to work with.

Miami’s front office is “not planning any changes, any time soon” regarding McDaniel’s status, Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday in an appearance on “NFL Live.” Schefter added that everything will be “status quo” in Miami for the time being.

After an ugly 31-6 loss to the lowly Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the Dolphins are now an awful 1-6 on the season. They don’t have their bye until Week 12 either, so Miami needs to find a way to pick up wins in a hurry right now.

McDaniel, 42, is in his fourth season as Dolphins head coach and led the team to back-to-back playoff berths in his first two years (including an 11-win season in 2023, marking the team’s best finish since 2008). But Miami went 8-9 in 2024, and now the bottom has fallen out on them completely in 2025.

In recent days, we had heard that McDaniel could potentially be fired, especially given a concerning recent trend. But ahead of a road date against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 8, the Dolphins do not appear to be any closer to making a coaching change.

That said, a more realistic change that Miami fans could see may have to do with the status of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who has now produced 10 interceptions and six fumbles lost (which are both NFL-leading marks). After the Dolphins’ blowout loss to the Browns, McDaniel made some notable remarks about Tagovailoa’s job security as the starting QB.
