Osi Umenyiora is already willing to call Robert Griffin III ‘RG3’

Osi Umenyiora is apparently an easy guy to win over. During an interview with WFAN over the offseason, Umenyiora said Robert Griffin III didn’t deserve a cool nickname like “RG3.” Instead, Umenyiora said he was going to call him “Bob.” The Giants defensive end has already changed his mind.

Griffin enjoyed a stellar debut in a win over the Saints last Sunday. He threw for 320 yards and two touchdowns and did not turn the ball over. The performance earned the rookie NFC offensive player of the week honors, and Umenyiora indicated that is enough to earn his respect when speaking with USA TODAY Sports Thursday.

“Oh, um, RG3?” Osi asked. “What is he? What does he like to be called? What does he want me to call him?

“Yes. I will call him RG3.”

So that settles that. The Giants don’t play the Redskins until Week 7, but Umenyiora has already come around. Thank goodness for that, because Griffin already has enough nicknames. He didn’t need to add “Bob” to the list.
