Report: 1 QB-needy team not interested in Baker Mayfield

Baker Mayfield stands on the sideline

Baker Mayfield appears to have very few options if he wants to be a starter next season, as one team that may be in the market for a quarterback is apparently not interested in the former first overall pick.

The Carolina Panthers were one of several teams that missed out on Deshaun Watson, but they reportedly do not view Mayfield as a consolation prize. According to ESPN’s David Newton, any talk of the Panthers having interest in Mayfield is not true.

A separate report this week claimed Mayfield’s representatives have had preliminary conversations with the Panthers and Seattle Seahawks. The Cleveland Browns have very little leverage with Mayfield after they acquired Watson, so any team that trades for Mayfield probably won’t have to give up much. If the Panthers truly aren’t interested, that says a lot about their thoughts on the former Oklahoma star.

Mayfield publicly requested a trade just before the Browns acquired Watson. He was said to have strong interest in one team that has since found another solution at the QB position.

Mayfield was wildly inconsistent during his four seasons in Cleveland. He is also owed more than $18 million next season, which is almost certainly hurting his trade value. It does not sound like teams are willing to give up very much for him.
