Panthers WR makes NFL history with insanely bad stat line

Carolina Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette made NFL history for the wrong reason during his team’s loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday.

Legette had just one catch in the Panthers’ 27-22 loss to the Cardinals at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Ariz. He was tackled for a loss on the play, so he finished with -2 receiving yards.

While finishing a game with negative yardage is bad enough, Legette somehow accomplished the feat while drawing eight targets. He became just the second player in NFL history to finish with fewer than 0 yards receiving after being targeted at least eight times.

Legette has not been able to find his feet in the NFL since the Panthers drafted him with the 32nd overall pick last year. He finished with 49 catches for 497 yards and 4 touchdowns as a rookie. The former South Carolina star has 4 catches for 8 yards through two games this season.

Though he has had some bad games over the past year-plus, Legette is hoping Sunday’s will go down as his worst — at least statistically.
