Patrick Mahomes hints he may try behind-the-back pass during game

Patrick Mahomes

Patrick Mahomes could be giving the people what they want to see this year.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback (and periodic trick pass connoisseur) was asked about the chances of him throwing a behind-the-back pass in a game and left the door open to the possibility.

“We’d have to be winning by a lot and it’d have to be late in the game,” Mahomes replied, per Kevin Clark of The Ringer.

The 23-year-old gunslinger, who threw for 5,097 yards and 50 touchdowns en route to NFL MVP honors last season, has a number of unique gimmick tosses in his bag, including behind-the-backs, no-looks, lefties, and many more. He also offered a glimpse of what the behind-the-back pass specifically might look like in training camp this offseason.

While Mahomes obviously wouldn’t attempt such hijinks in a close game, he already completed one trick pass in a game last year and may now be leveling up heading into next season.
