Will Rams’ first pick be Jared Goff or Carson Wentz?

Many suspected that the Los Angeles Rams traded for the first overall pick with the intention of taking a quarterback, but with two highly thought of quarterbacks on the board, which one will it be?

As of Thursday, the reports are conflicting, and the answer seems to depend on who you ask.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that the Rams are “leaning toward” selecting California’s Jared Goff first overall, but that they have not yet ruled out selecting North Dakota State’s Carson Wentz. One reason the Rams pulled the trigger on the deal now, Schefter said, is to give the team two weeks to evaluate both quarterbacks and make a final decision.

NFL Media’s Mike Silver also hears that Goff has the edge to go first overall.

On the other hand, CBS Sports’s Jason La Canfora reported that the Rams are very high on Wentz, and he would be “surprised” if the North Dakota State quarterback is not the pick. NFL Media’s Mike Mayock also believes that the Rams traded up with Wentz in mind. Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times reported the same.

Basically, there is no real consensus right now, and several well-informed people are hearing completely different things. Goff is regarded by many as the safer pick, a guy who is more of a known commodity having played in a power conference and faced top competition before. Wentz has all the physical tools and some analysts, Mayock included, firmly believe that he can and will be the best quarterback in the draft and can reach elite levels. The real truth is that the Rams likely don’t have a final decision, and there are likely people in their organization that don’t even agree on who the pick should be. They have two weeks to think about it, and don’t be surprised if Los Angeles takes every bit of that time to make their decision.
