Ravens get screwed on huge interception call in end zone

Brandon Stephens in the end zone

The Baltimore Ravens got screwed on Thursday night by an overturned call during their game against the Cincinnati Bengals at M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, Md.

The Bengals had the ball at the Ravens’ 14-yard line for a 1st-and-5 late in the second quarter with the game tied 7-7. Joe Burrow appeared to get fooled by Baltimore’s coverage when throwing into the end zone for Mike Gesicki. Brandon Stephens made a nice play and appeared to have an interception; that’s what the call was on the field.

However, the officials reviewed the play and determined that Stephens was out of bounds, so they reversed the call to an incompletion.

The incompletion call allowed the Bengals to remain in possession. Cincinnati eventually scored a touchdown with 30 seconds left in the half to go up 14-7.

Stephens appeared to intercept the Burrow pass in the end zone and should have had a touchback. He caught the ball about two yards inside the sideline. But the officials overturned that, which helped Cincinnati gain a significant lead in the AFC North contest.
