Ray Rice hoping to play in NFL in 2016
Ray Rice will turn 29 later this week, but the free agent running back believes age is merely a number.
In a recent chat with TMZ, Rice said he still has not given up on playing in the NFL even though the window for being signed has likely closed for a few more months.
“Honestly, I’m never gonna give up,” the former Ravens star said. “You don’t want to give up on something you started. You want to finish the right way.
“There’s 32 teams. If any one of them calls I’ll be ready.”
The chances of Rice being signed at this point are incredibly slim. He has now missed two full seasons, and it’s doubtful any team would sign a running back who is pushing 30 and has not played in two years given Rice’s disturbing history of domestic violence.
Rice has expressed interest in playing for specific teams, but he would take a training camp invite anywhere at this point. If he were four or five years younger, he might have a shot. Rice’s age and off-field history will likely make him not worth the risk.
