WR Rishard Matthews asks for his release from Titans
Rishard Matthews has asked the Tennessee Titans for his release after hardly making an impact this season.
Matthews posted a photo and note on Instagram Wednesday that hinted his time with the Titans was over. He said he was “home for good” unless someone called to get him off the couch.
Matthews later confirmed to A to Z Sports Nashville that he asked the team for his release due to a lack of playing time. The outlet further reports that the two sides have an agreement on the release and are working to finalize the paperwork.
Matthews was earning $5 million this season and signed an extension to make $7.75 million next year. The wide receiver looked like he would be a big factor in the Titans’ offense after catching 65 passes for 945 yards and 9 touchdowns in 2016. His stats were down somewhat last year, mostly due to a hamstring injury. He missed time in camp this year due to a knee injury and only had 3 catches for 11 yards in three games this season.
