Robert Mathis arrested for drunk driving
Former Indianapolis Colts star Robert Mathis was arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly driving while under the influence.
According to Hamilton County online court records, Mathis was arrested shortly after midnight in Carmel, Ind., and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
Mathis, who spent his entire 14-year-old career with the Colts, was hired by the team last month to be a pass rush consultant.
“We are aware of the incident involving Robert Mathis last night,” the Colts said in a statement, via ESPN.com. “We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time.”
Mathis is the Colts’ all-time leader in sacks with 123, and that mark places him 17th on the NFL’s list of career sacks leaders. He and Dwight Freeney were one of the most feared pass-rushing duos in the game for several years. Mathis was suspended after he tested positive for performance-enhancing drug use back in 2014, though he claimed he had a good excuse for the failed test.
