Ron Rivera coached Captain Munnerlyn at Carolina, and he’s more than happy to have a jab back at his former player.
On Saturday, Rivera was asked if he wanted to respond to comments made by Munnerlyn, now with Minnesota, about how Carolina’s players fold when not playing well.
“I just want to remind him, short-term memory, when we played San Francisco in the playoff game, if I remember correctly, he did get a 15-yard penalty for head-butting somebody,” Rivera said, alluding to a 2013 NFC playoff game, via David Newton of ESPN. “He’ll get the message from there.”
Rivera clarified that he was half-joking, but the message came through loud and clear.
Munnerlyn had a lot to say about his former team. It’s unclear how it played in the locker room, and while it doesn’t seem to be bothering Rivera, he didn’t seem to love it, either.
