Rivera is a huge hire for the Redskins, as many believed they would not be able to attract a big name given the current state of the franchise. However, owner Daniel Snyder was likely able to sell Rivera on the big changes that are being made, and it would not be a surprise if he has been promised a say in personnel decisions.
Rivera went 76-63-1 as Carolina’s head coach for eight-plus seasons, including a Super Bowl appearance. He won three straight NFC South titles at one point. Rivera beat out at least one other candidate that likely would not have pleased Redskins fans if the team decided to hire him.
