Roquan Smith thanks police for helping recover ‘most’ of stolen items

Chicago Bears rookie linebacker Roquan Smith had a tough weekend when he was the victim of a robbery, but fortunately the person responsible for the theft has been identified.

On Wednesday morning, Smith posted a video on social media thanking the Athens-Clarke County Police Department in Georgia for helping him recover most of the items that were stolen from his car on Saturday.

“I would personally like to thank everyone for their kind words and prayers, as Athens-Clarke County Police Department worked very hard to identify the individual responsible for this,” Smith said. “It was definitely huge. I would also like to thank many of you that spread information on various social media outlets. Due to the prompt attention by the Athens-Clarke County Police Department, I was able to recover most of my items as well as the individual being identified. I’d just like to thank you guys so much.”

Among the items that were stolen was Smith’s team-issued iPad, so there was some concern about information being swiped from the Bears. However, the team told NFL.com that the device was password protected and was wiped clean, so there was “no compromise” of any info.

Smith is not the first NFL player to have his team-issued iPad stolen, but fortunately they are set up so people can’t steal information in situations like that. While Smith’s first NFL offseason is off to a shaky start, police have helped resolve some of his issues.
