Ryan Fitzpatrick upset about being forced off field for delayed concussion check
Ryan Fitzpatrick was forced out of the Miami Dolphins’ game against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday after taking a hit to the head, and he was not happy about it.
Fitzpatrick was hit in the facemask on what was ultimately called a holding penalty on his Dolphins. Fitzpatrick remained in the game and was sacked on the next play. He handed the ball off on a third down play, and then the Dolphins kicked a field goal to take a 13-12 lead.
Then Indy got the ball and Brian Hoyer threw an interception on his first pass of the possession, giving the ball back to Miami. And even though the hit to the head had occurred well before then, play was suddenly stopped just before Fitzpatrick got the snap on first down.
It was explained that the Miami quarterback needed to leave for a likely concussion check. Fitzpatrick was upset about being forced off the field.
Fitzpatrick headed into the medical tent and was replaced by backup quarterback Josh Rosen, who handed the ball off three times. The Dolphins ended up with a field goal on the possession to make it 16-12.
The delayed reaction by the concussion spotter made the timing of Fitzpatrick’s exit odd, but it’s better to have a player checked out after a hit than not.
