The New York Jets are buried in a quarterback crisis, but their regular starter is hoping that he’ll only miss two more games.
Sam Darnold said Tuesday that he hopes to be ready for Week 5, which is the timetable he’s been given by doctors.

Darnold is recovering from mono. It’s contagious and dangerous in that it can enlarge vital organs, making them susceptible to rupturing. With that in mind, the Jets are going to have to be very careful with Darnold going forward.
The quarterback will definitely miss Sunday’s game against the New England Patriots. The good news for him is that they have an early Week 4 bye, which buys him extra time to return without missing any action. That’s also very helpful for the Jets, considering backup Trevor Siemian won’t be able to play in his place, having suffered a season-ending ankle injury Monday night.
