Sam Darnold looks closer than ever to being cleared to return to action.
The New York Jets quarterback needs only doctors’ clearance to return to the field for Week 6 against the Dallas Cowboys, according to coach Adam Gase. Those tests will be run Tuesday.
Darnold will have his lab tests tomorrow morning, per Gase, who said, "If he gets cleared, he'll start." #jets

Darnold is recovering from mono, so it’s important that he can be hit without damage to his internal organs. Considering the Jets took ten sacks on Sunday, that’s a pretty big consideration. The Jets have been cautious with their quarterback, and it’s easy to understand why when you consider the potential consequences of sending him back in before he’s ready.
Darnold hasn’t played since a Week 1 loss to Buffalo.
