A video that went viral during Super Bowl LIX sparked speculation that Patrick Mahomes was upset with Samaje Perine, but the veteran running back insists that was not the case.
Perine dropped a pass during the second quarter of the Chiefs’ 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl on Sunday night. Toward the end of the game, Mahomes was making his way down the sideline offering high-fives and encouragement for his teammates as a Kansas City loss became inevitable.
For some reason, Mahomes skipped one player. He bypassed Perine en route to Travis Kelce. Naturally, fans on social media wondered if Mahomes snubbed Perine intentionally,

Reasonable people knew Mahomes would not have been that cold. Still, Perine felt the need to address the video.
In a comment on Instagram, Perine explained that he and Mahomes did not high-five because Perine was fixing the string of his pants.
“Lol I actually stood up to untie my pants string, no one blamed anybody,” Perine wrote, via Justin Tasch of the New York Post. “It’s not that deep.”
There is typically more to the story when that type of video goes viral. Mahomes knows there are cameras on him at all times, especially in the Super Bowl. Even if he had some sort of issue with Perine, he almost certainly would not have expressed it that way.
