Saquon Barkley sends message to Giants over franchise tag
Saquon Barkley is headed into another offseason of uncertainty, and he wants the New York Giants to deal with it early one way or another.
Barkley said he was “numb” to the possibility of the Giants using the franchise tag on him again. He wants the team to make a decision quickly so he can either deal with it or start finding a new team.
“They did it last year. So, I’m numb to it,” Barkley said, via ESPN. “I don’t have any feelings toward that at all. If you’re going to do it, just don’t wait until March 5. Just get it over with. If not, let me go. Simple.”
For Barkley, it is quite clear he wants nothing to do with the franchise tag again after it was used on him last year. That outcome is not up to him, but he is at least trying to put some public pressure on the Giants to handle it in a way he can work with.
Barkley ran for 962 yards and six touchdowns in 14 games for the Giants this season. He has made it clear that he wants to stay with the team, but he also wants a fair deal.
