The Philadelphia Eagles may have dodged a bullet with Saquon Barkley’s hamstring injury.
The All-Pro running back got hurt early in the team’s Week 4 contest against the Los Angeles Rams at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, Pa. Barkley rushed for six yards on the Eagles’ second drive and came up limping as he ran toward the sideline, causing panic among fans and fantasy football owners everywhere (video here).
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Barkley’s hamstring issue is “not considered to be a long-term injury.” He is reportedly viewed as week-to-week and may return sooner rather than later.
While Barkley is still expected to miss time, the update is a positive one for an Eagles team that has been decimated by injuries of late.
Philadelphia also lost Barkley’s backup, running back Tank Bigsby, to a core muscle injury during the 24-20 loss to the Rams. He will have to undergo surgery to repair the issue, which is expected to keep him out for “six weeks or less.”
The Eagles entered Sunday’s contest without top pass-catching options DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert, who are both dealing with lower-body injuries. Right tackle Lane Johnson also missed the game due to personal reasons.
