Seahawks committed a very rare penalty against the Jaguars

The Seattle Seahawks did something during their game against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday that is hardly ever seen in the NFL, and that is by no means a compliment.

The Jaguars scored a touchdown to cut the Seahawks’ deficit to 20-12 early in the fourth quarter at Lumen Field in Seattle, Wash. Jacksonville head coach Liam Coen decided to go for two, and the Seahawks made the attempt a bit easier for the Jaguars by committing a too many men on the field penalty.

When a team is penalized for having too many men on the field, there are almost always 12 players. In this instance, however, the Seahawks somehow had 13 players lined up to defend against Jacksonville’s two-point attempt.

From a penalty standpoint, there is no difference between having 12, 13, 14 or 25 players on the field. It was just incredibly rare to see 13 players line up on defense for Seattle, and for the most part it seemed like they had no idea they had two extra players on the field.

Fans thought the penalty was hilarious:

Even with the penalty giving the Jaguars half the distance to the goal, they were still unable to punch the ball in. They went on to lose 20-12 to fall to 4-2 on the season. The Seahawks improved to 4-2 with the win.
