Shedeur Sanders make a bold new claim

The Cleveland Browns view Shedeur Sanders as a third-string quarterback at the moment, but the former Colorado star believes he is capable of playing better than some starters he has watched this season.

In an interview with ESPN Cleveland on Thursday, Sanders spoke about how he has had to remain patient in his first NFL season. Sanders was asked about a recent comment his father Deion made on the “New Heights” podcast, when the Colorado coach said he has never sat on the bench and thought to himself, “Well, I learned a lot today.”

Shedeur stopped short of agreeing with his old man, but the fifth-round pick did make a bold claim about the current state of quarterback play across the NFL.

“I know if you see the quarterback play in the league right now, I know I’m capable of doing better than that,” Sanders said.

Sanders is right that there has been some poor quarterback play through the first three weeks of the season. Of course, that is the case every year.

The only quarterback play that matters to Sanders is that of Joe Flacco, who has thrown four interceptions in three games. Rookie third-round pick Dillon Gabriel is currently ahead of Sanders on Cleveland’s depth chart as well. Unless that changes, it is unlikely that Shedeur will play at all this season.

Sanders told one team not to draft him because he did not want to be buried on the depth chart for years. Deion seems to think his son will get a shot much sooner than many are anticipating.
