Stephen Gostkowski has no plans to retire after release from Patriots
Veteran kicker Stephen Gostkowski has no plans to end his career despite receiving his release from the New England Patriots.
Gostkowski, 36, underwent hip surgery during the season and knows he may be hurt in his quest to find a new team by his inability to work out in person. He intends to play in 2020 in spite of this.
“I’m not ready to just hang it up. I’m gonna try to play,” Gostkowski told Tom E. Curran on the Patriots Talk Podcast, via Justin Leger of NBC Sports Boston. “It’s going to be tough to show teams what I can do right now or work out or do a physical, but I’m not too worried about it. I’m not concerned. I kind of take things day by day.”
Gostkowski can point to some high-quality references, but teams will want to see that he’s healthy before bringing him in as their kicker. Given how often kicking problems arise in the NFL, he’ll likely get an opportunity at some point. He is an 87.4 percent kicker during his career.
