Steve Smith has microfractures in back, out for Week 5

Steve Smith

The Baltimore Ravens will be without one of their top playmakers for at least their next game. Steve Smith Sr. has microfractures in his back and has been ruled out for the team’s Week 5 game against the Cleveland Browns.

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh confirmed the news during a sideline interview from the Michigan-Maryland game Saturday as he was supporting his brother, Jim.

“I think he’s going to be OK in the long run,” Harbaugh said of Smith to CSN Mid-Atlantic. “He’s got some small microfractures in his back (from) what I’ve been told. They ruled him out for the Cleveland game. But after that, hopefully he’s going to be back.”

Baltimore’s receiving corps will be headed by Kamar Aiken and Marlon Brown while Smith is out. The injury is a big blow for the Ravens, as Smith had starred in the team’s first four games. He had 29 catches for 373 yards and two touchdowns prior to going down against the Steelers on Thursday. And the person on the worst end of the news is probably actually this guy.
