The NFL has issued a response after New York Giants co-owner Steve Tisch’s name appeared in the U.S. Department of Justice’s latest release of Jeffrey Epstein-related documents.

The NFL acknowledged Tisch’s name showing up in the Epstein documents, as well as the Giants co-owner’s public response.

“Our office will look into the matter to understand the facts,” the league’s statement said.

Tisch’s name appeared hundreds of times in the release of files, primarily around 2013. The released emails show exchanges between him and the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein regarding introductions to adult women.

The fact that Tisch’s name appears in the files does not imply wrongdoing or prove that he was involved in any criminal acts. He issued a statement acknowledging that he had a “brief association” with Epstein, which he deeply regretted. The NFL may be forced to act more firmly if any investigation finds that Tisch was more involved with Epstein than is currently known.

Tisch, 76, became chairman of the Giants in 2005. His family purchased a stake in the franchise in 1991.
