Steven Jackson on Twitter begs Cowboys to sign him

3-time Pro Bowl running back Steven Jackson is currently unemployed, and he’s doing everything he can to make sure he doesn’t stay that way for much longer.

On Thursday, Jackson, a still-unsigned free agent, petitioned the Dallas Cowboys to take a flier on him in wholly unique fashion. Jackson posted an image on his Twitter account of AT&T Stadium illuminated by his #39 jersey number in the style of The Bat-Signal.

Who knows? The 32-year-old running back could be the hero Dallas deserves. Last season’s NFL-leading rusher DeMarco Murray left the Cowboys for the Philadelphia Eagles, and new signee Darren McFadden is already set to begin training camp on the PUP list (in the most Darren McFadden thing ever). Jackson would provide a veteran boost to a suddenly scant running back corps. He very well could have a Renaissance year behind the Cowboys’ elite offensive line as well.

But maybe Jackson isn’t the hero Dallas needs right now. The Oregon State product used to be one of the top running backs in the league during his time with the Rams, but is now a shell of his former self. His physical, run-between-the-tackles, power running style has aged poorly. Nor is Jackson anywhere near the passing game threat he used to be. Jackson is coming off a subpar tenure with the Falcons where he averaged only 3.6 yards per carry and racked up just 1589 total yards from scrimmage and 13 touchdowns in his two seasons combined. With workable backfield options like Joseph Randle and Lance Dunbar available in-house, perhaps the Cowboys would better off declining Jackson’s gracious offer and moving forward with youth.

Either you die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself beg Jerry Jones for a job on Twitter.
