Raiders’ Tahir Whitehead dresses to support suspended Vontaze Burfict

Some Oakland Raiders players are angry at the NFL’s decision to suspend Vontaze Burfict, and have shown their solidarity.
One of them is fellow linebacker Tahir Whitehead, who wore Burfict’s number on his cap Wednesday as both a show of support and a means of protest.

Whitehead was vocally opposed to Burfict’s season-long suspension for his headshot on Indianapolis Colts tight end Jack Doyle. Whitehead’s objections were largely based on his argument that the hit alone didn’t warrant a suspension of that magnitude. He is correct, but Burfict is a repeated offender who has never learned his lesson, and that’s why the NFL acted the way it did. Whitehead’s anger is off the mark here.
