Report: Titans could fire Mike Mularkey with playoff loss
Simply making the playoffs may not be enough to save Tennessee Titans coach Mike Mularkey’s job.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Saturday that a Titans loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild card round could see Mularkey fired. The main concerns surrounding Mularkey are the lack of progress from quarterback Marcus Mariota and the fact that the Titans have struggled at various points, ending the regular season with a minus-22 point differential.
If Mularkey is fired, the Titans are expected to pursue New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. Such a move makes sense, as they’ll likely want an offensive coach to pair with Mariota in the hopes of developing him further.
We had heard that Mularkey was coaching for his job in the season finale, but the Titans pulled through and won it to get into the playoffs. The pressure won’t be diminished in the playoffs.
