The Cleveland Browns, perhaps unsurprisingly, are sticking with Deshaun Watson as their Week 2 quarterback. The rationale coach Todd Monken used to justify the decision, however, is leaving people a bit baffled.
Monken confirmed Monday that he anticipates Watson getting another start in Week 2 despite a blowout Week 1 loss to Jacksonville. The Browns coach defended Watson’s performance and said “there were some really good things on film.”
The overwhelming response to this from fans was to ask what film Monken was watching.
Is it possible that Monken thinks he coaches the Jags https://t.co/sSFAN3FGrm

Did they watch the film with their eyes closed?

Watson threw a 46-yard touchdown pass in garbage time in a 34-10 blowout loss. That was the only highlight of his day as he went 16/22 for 205 yards with an interception. He was also sacked five times.
There was one preseason theory suggesting the Browns were going to let Watson play the first two games and then reconsider his position before their Week 3 home opener. Maybe there really is a grain of truth to that.
