Tom Brady is one of the best football players of all time and in the conversation for most accomplished athlete of all time in any sport. Additionally, all three of his sisters were collegiate athletes, including Maureen, who was an All-American softball pitcher. It would be natural to figure that Brady’s children would be just as interested in sports, but that’s not the case.
While Brady’s oldest son, 12-year-old Jack (whose mother is Tom’s ex, Bridget Moynahan) loves sports, 9-year-old son Benny is not a huge sports fan. Tom Brady is featured on the cover of Men’s Health and talked about his three children. He noted that Benny is not really into sports and it took wife Gisele talking with him for him to comprehend that.
“When Benny came along, I thought he would be just like Jack. So I was like, ‘C’mon, let’s do this.’ And he was like, ‘Nope.’ And I was like, ‘What? No, do this!’ And Gisele kept saying to me, ‘Would you effing understand that your son is different?’ It was hard for me. I was like, ‘What do you mean? He’s a boy; he should just do all these things that I do.’ The reality is that Benny just likes different things. And it’s great because now I just have to go do what he wants to do. When we do that, we have the best time. He’s like, ‘OMG, Dad, you’re so funny.’ He loves joking, and I joke back,” Brady told Men’s Health.
Brady joked that Benny would rather hang out with actor The Rock more than Tom. The article mentioned that Benny plays video games.
Each child is different and doesn’t need to have the same interests as their parents, nor should they. That’s part of what makes everyone an individual. Coming from his sports background and living a football-centric life made it difficult for him to understand that his son wouldn’t find the same things just as interesting, but it sounds like he has adapted.
