Tom Coughlin has been linked to a number of coaching rumors since he was forced out by the New York Giants after last season, and the 70-year-old is not slamming the door on any of them.
Coughlin still has a job in the NFL, as he is currently a senior adviser to football operations. However, he still misses being on the sidelines.
“Am I missing the sideline?” Coughlin said on a conference call Tuesday, via Paul Schwartz of the New York Post. “I would be less than honest if I had told you that I didn’t miss the sideline.”
Coughlin, who will be inducted into the Giants Ring of Honor Monday night, is not going to be the most sought-after head coaching candidate this offseason. Because of his age, any team that hires the two-time Super Bowl champion knows it would be a short-term deal.
“As far as the future holds, who knows?” Coughlin said. “I wouldn’t speculate on anything.”
We have already heard of one NFL team that could be targeting Coughlin as a head coach in 2017, but it still seems unlikely. His impressive resume may not be enough to persuade teams to ignore Father Time.
