Travis Hunter likely to change positions in 2026

The Jacksonville Jaguars were adamant that Travis Hunter would remain a two-way player after drafting him last year, but that might be about to change.

NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe reported that Hunter will play more at cornerback next season than at wide receiver. While Hunter will still get the opportunity to play both ways, the Jaguars believe he can be an elite cornerback and intend to focus him there.

“He will play both sides again in 2026. The big change may come in the usage,” Wolfe said. “From what I understand, they plan to play him as a full-time quarterback and a part-time receiver.”

Many have questioned whether Hunter can play a full complement of snaps on both sides of the ball. His season-ending knee injury in 2025 only further convinced some that such a workload is asking too much. Even though the Jaguars are not completely eliminating his two-way viability, this may be an acknowledgement of some of those criticisms.

Hunter played 324 snaps on offense last season compared to just 162 on defense. Essentially, the Jaguars are flipping that around. They seem to believe he has a higher ceiling as a cornerback, and if that is the case, it is only logical that the organization would lean into that.

Hunter, 22, played in seven games last season before going down for the season. He caught 28 passes for 298 yards and a touchdown on offense, and had 15 total tackles on defense.
