The story after a quarter of play in Monday night’s anticipated game between the Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs was about all the penalty flags being thrown.

Through a quarter of play, KC had been flagged 8 times for 82 yards. Their defensive backs were repeatedly called for fouls, while they also committed multiple infractions at the line of scrimmage. After a quarter and a half, the Chiefs had been penalized 9 times for 92 yards, while the Rams were flagged once for 5 yards.

Fans took note on Twitter of all the penalties being called, and the disparity between the two sides.

My gosh it’s time for this allstar referee crew to put the flags away and let the 2 great teams play

— Mike Napoli (@MikeNapoli25) November 20, 2018

Did the NFL replace half this crew because they didn't throw enough flags???

— CJ Fogler (@cjzero) November 20, 2018

Chill with the flags

Seen the refs more than the players in this game

Need. More. Flags.

Slight FLAG issue tonight. Also, that’s a beautiful red circle. pic.twitter.com/eOflnrSeNB

The amount of penalties called on the Chiefs was in historic territory:

The 8 penalties in the 1st quarter by the Chiefs are the most since #Raiders had 8 on 9/7/03 vs Tennessee. The 82 yards in penalties are most in a 1st quarter since Raiders had 84 vs Ari 9/26/10

Alert to the NFL: The fans want to see two of the best teams in the NFL play and not have the game decided by the officials.
