Perhaps the biggest surprise of the early part of the NFL season is Ryan Fitzpatrick suddenly looking like a superstar.
The veteran journeyman was given the job in Tampa Bay on a temporary basis after Jameis Winston was suspended to start the season, and he’s certainly made the most of it. He opened the season with a career-best 417 yards and four touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints, and followed it up with another four touchdown passes Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Naturally, Twitter delighted in the man they call FitzMagic making himself the world’s most unlikely early-season MVP candidate.

Ryan FitzMagic. Runaway MVP so far. Yeah, it's two games, but how many times would anyone imagine being able to write that? Take it when you can.

Some players thrive in certain situations: Tom Brady late in a big game, Aaron Rodgers against a single safety, and Ryan Fitzpatrick when there’s the slightest hint a team will give him $10 million the following season.

OK the Ryan Fitzpatrick thing is officially fascinating to me. I wonder if there's some secret deal where he is allowed to have like 200 high-quality passes whenever he steps into a job, and then it all goes to hell on pass No. 201.

Meanwhile, a few people spared a thought for Winston, who will probably have to sit for a while if Fitzpatrick keeps this up.

Winston has some reason to sweat. Fitzpatrick is getting the job done. If that doesn’t change, neither will the quarterback.
